In a summary forwarded to President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has recommended three dates for holding general elections 2018.

The ECP has recommended dates between July 25 and July 27 to the president to chose and fix a date between these for the upcoming general elections, local media reported. The ruling government will complete its tenure in the end of May, after which a caretaker government will take over and oversee to the general elections.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is holding talks with Leader of Opposition Khurshid Shah to discuss and select a caretaker set-up. The name of the caretaker prime minister is likely to be announced on Tuesday (tomorrow).

In preparation of the upcoming elections, the ECP has also appointed district returning officers (DROs) and returning officers (ROs). The ECP has also directed provincial chief secretaries to ensure security of returning officers and polling staff.
