ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance Miftah Ismail here on Tuesday said that government was determined to convey the consolidated economic gains of the last five years to the under privileged segments of the society, for bringing them in to social safety net and to reduce poverty in the country.

Winding up the budget debate in the National Assembly, he said that the budget also provided cushion for the poor segments of society, so the misperception that the budget had nothing to offer to the poor was wrong.

Miftah said that the government had increased the funding for Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) by threefold, while the funds for Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal had also been increased from Rs 2 billion in 2013 to Rs 6 billion in the current year, and they would be further increased to Rs10 billion in the next fiscal year.
