Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan congratulated Mahathir Mohamad on being elected as the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Khan took to Twitter to congratulate the world's oldest elected leader at 92, saying that ousted Najib Razak was the reason that Mahatir came out of a 15-year retirement.

The PTI chairman continued that Mahatir had won the elections despite attempts by Razak's government to manipulate the elections.

The politician won 113 seats, one more than the number required to rule. Mahathir is expected to be sworn in later on Thursday. According to The Guardian, the veteran politician said he would be forming a government by the evening. “We would like to form the government here, today, because currently there is no government of Malaysia,” said Mahathir. “We hope that at 5o’clock today we will have formed a government.”

Mahathir ruled as the prime minister for 22 years, from 1981 until he stepped down in 2003.
