Inflation slowed to 3.8 percent year-on-year from 3.9 percent.

The government said its mid-term target is to contain the inflation rate at 5.0 percent during the fiscal year to June 2019.

The statistics office said prices of food and beverages - which have the largest weight in the basket of goods and services used to calculate inflation - increased 3.6 percent in April, down from 4.7 percent in March.

Month-on-month, overall inflation slowed to 0.4 percent from 1.2 percent, it said.
