According to the official sources, the estimated cost for the 43 new schemes of HEC was Rs 41133 million while the government has approved around Rs 6.5 billion for the upcoming projects.
Among the few prominent new schemes, Rs 20 million has been allocated to HEC for establishment of Drug Addiction Prevention Programme in higher educational institutions, while Rs 125 million were reserved for the establishment of Agriculture University D.I Khan.
Furthermore, the government has also allocated Rs 100 million for the establishment of Baba Gurunanak International University at Nankana Sahib, and Rs 50 million for the establishment of Gandhara University at Taxila, cost of both universities would be shared with Pakistan Evacuee Trust.
A sum of Rs 300 million has been reserved for the establishment of Centre for Inter Faith Harmony and Cooperation of Civilization at Kartarpur, while Rs 75 million have been reserved for establishment of Institute of Sufism and Mysticism.
The government through HEC would establish National Institute of Applied Technologies and Specialized Research Centres to support China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) WITH COAST OF Rs 100 million.
University of Murree and Chitral would be established with Rs 300 million and 100 million respectively, while 145 million rupees were reserved for the establishment of University of Khushab.
Two programmes including Pak-Russia Knowledge Platform and Pak-UK Knowledge Gateway would be initiated with Rs 100 million and 125 million respectively by the present government under HEC. A sum of Rs 100 million and Rs 200 million have been allocated for the provision of transport and accommodation facilities respectively to the female students of public sector universities under an umbrella project.
