For the revival of hockey in the country, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has introduced a 'Reward Program' for young players to motivate them.

Under this programme, the players who are performing well will be rewarded, according to Hockey’s regulatory authority in the country.

Goalkeeper Waqar Younis, who got international goal keeping kit that is worth around PKR 0.25 millions under the programme, was rewarded because of best performance in all recent junior camps.
In a message after receiving the kit, Younis said, "I’m thankful to PHF, especially Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and Olympian Shehbaz Ahmed, who judged my performance and rewarded me with the kit.”

He vowed to perform even better and repay by performing for Pakistan at the highest level.

Speaking on his family background, he said, “I belong to a middle class family. My father is a driver and he doesn’t earn enough to buy me this kit.”

“This is may be the first time that the PHF is giving away new kit like this which is quite expensive,” he added.
