Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi directed on Tuesday the relevant authorities to ensure that no load-shedding takes place at Iftar and Sehr during Ramazan.

According to local media reports, PM Abbasi chaired an emergency meeting of Cabinet Committee on Energy earlier, to review the demand and supply of electricity in the country.

Karachi is sweltering for the past week and with the persistent load-shedding it has become a even bigger problem. The Sindh Government has already rescheduled the summer vacations for educational institutions, which will now start from May 14 instead of June 1.

PM Abbasi gives KE, SSGC 15 days time to resolve issue

As the month of Ramazan nears, power outages have increased despite PM Abbasi assuring that electricity shortage would not happen.

Last month, K-Electric (KE) issued a press release blaming the cause of prolonged load-shedding to low gas supply from Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). The statement stated that KE is currently receiving gas supply at approximately 90mmcfd as opposed to Economic Coordination Committee allocated 276mmcfd and below the supply levels of this time last year. SSGC, however, immediately replied to their claim and termed the statement misleading.
