ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Thursday dismissed contempt of court petitions against former Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah and Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali.

A three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, termed the petitions ineffective.

Petitioner Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi in his petition stated that electricity of the Supreme Court was disconnected on the directives of Minister of State for Water and Power and that act fell under the definition of contempt of court.

During the course of proceedings, the chief justice observed that disconnecting the electricity of the apex court could not be a contempt of court, hence the petition was not maintainable and stood dismissed.

The petition against Qaim Ali Shah was dismissed due to non-prosecution.
