Pakistan Railways would soon install modern closed-circuit cameras (CCTV) at railway stations of Sargodha and Rawalpindi to monitor important offices and platforms. In order to ensure foolproof security, the railway station, parcel office, platforms, waiting rooms and surrounding areas would be thoroughly monitored, a senior official source told APP on Friday.
"In the first phase Pakistan Railways has already installed 10 closed-circuit cameras at Rawalpindi and eight at Lalamusa railway stations," he added. The official said that all the CCTV cameras and walk through gates at Rawalpindi are working properly and designated officers are monitoring them round the rock.
Installation of closed-circuit cameras at all the important places of the station would help tighten security of Rawalpindi Railway Station. "The government was making all-out efforts to improve law and order and to facilitate passengers on the directive of Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique," he added. The Ministry of Railways had planned to install CCTV cameras at all major railway stations across the country for the security reasons.
The CCTV cameras will help railway security personnel to monitor the movement of suspicious people, especially terrorists. The cameras would be connected with a computer room at Railway Station that would also help the authorities to take action against violators of the ban on smoking. The official urged passengers to keep an eye on dubious people or goods inside and outside railway stations and inform Railways police about them without delay to prevent damage to public life and property.
