The Islamabad High Court (IHC) was informed by the government that the name of United States Defence and Air Attaché Colonel Joseph Emanuel has been placed on the blacklist, forbidding him to leave the country.

Once the hearing resumed in IHC, Deputy Attorney General Raja Khalid representing government, informed the court that while placing Emanuel's name on the Exit Control List (ECL) was a lengthy process, the US diplomat's name on the blacklist served the same purpose, local media reported. This means that Emanuel could not leave the country.

The court was also informed by DAG Khalid that the US diplomat had immunity due to which he could not be arrested nor tried.

On April 7, Emanuel ran a red light and hit a motorbike coming from the other side carrying Ateeq Baig and his cousin. Ateeq died on the spot whereas his cousin was injured. Following the accident, police reached the spot and transported the diplomat’s car to the police station.

Muhammad Idrees, father of deceased Ateeq Baig, had filed a petition in IHC seeking to place Emanuel's name on the ECL.
