PM Abbasi calls meeting over load-shedding crisis in Karachi

Taking notice of the load shedding crisis in Karachi, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has called a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Energy on April 23.

According to local media reports, the meeting will be held in Karachi. As the month of Ramazan approaches, the citizens are facing a lot of hardships as load-shedding continues to prevail in Karachi.

Earlier on Friday, political parties, including Pak Sarzameen Party and Jamaat-e-Islami, staged a protest outside Karachi Press Club and K-Electric (KE) head office near Punjab Chowrangi.

On Thursday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority hinted at taking over KE and said that it had the authority to take over if the load-shedding issue was not solved immediately.

The KE issued a press release blaming the cause of prolonged load-shedding to low gas supply from Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). The release stated that KE is currently receiving gas supply at approximately 90mmcfd as opposed to Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) allocated 276mmcfd and below the supply levels of this time last year.

SSGC immediately replied to their claim terming the statement misleading.
