Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi came under criticism by the Indian National Congress for his 'boastful' claims that India had conducted a surgical strike against Pakistan in 2016.

Congress expressed its displeasure over Modi's claims on surgical strike and termed it a disaster, according to Times of India. "The Bharatiya Janata Party government's Pakistan policy is a disaster. It is both unfortunate and unbecoming of him to say that India's prime minister speaks to Pakistan in its own language."

During the ‘Bharat ki Baat, Sabke Saath’ event in London, Modi had claimed that India conducted surgical strike in 2016 and also tried to contact Pakistan before making the news public but Pakistan did not answer.

The Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal rejected Modi's claims and said, "We have already dismissed the farcical allegations of the so-called surgical strike, which is nothing but a figment of Indian imagination."

Back in 2016, India claimed that it conducted surgical strikes against Pakistan but the latter rejected such news. A statement by Inter-Services Public Relations confirmed the death of its soldiers but had rubbished India’s claim of  surgical strikes.
