Talking to APP, Station House Officer (SHO) Sabzi Mandi Police Station, Asjad Mehmood said there were no extortionists in the market, however admitted that the firing incident took place in the area.

He informed that the fruit sellers had set up their stalls in the premises of a plot whose owners Haroon and Munir had asked them to vacate the place. However, after some arguments, the owners allegedly opened fire, stabbed the fruit sellers and rendered two of them severely injured.

Asjad said the incident occurred in Mandi Mor area where the fruit and vegetable vendors were illegally setting up their stalls.

The SHO said there was need to take notice of the unrestricted penetration of the vendors in the area.

To a question, he said the Sabzi Mandi Police was vigilant and had been taking necessary steps to eliminate extortionist, adding there were no Afghans involved in the incident as those involved in extortion had been detained earlier.

He added that strict measures had been taken in this regard to ensure public security while further investigation was underway.
