The committee, which met here under the chairmanship of Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, was informed that only 24pc distributed forms were retrieved so far, which was not a representative sample.
The retrieval issues was mainly in seven districts, including 6 in Karachi and one in Hyderabad, the committee was informed.
Secretary Industries Sindh on the occasion, stressed the need for simplifying the survey forms and also highlighted the need to conduct the survey online for better and faster results.
Director General Provincial Board of Statistics assured the committee that 89-90 retrieval would be made soon, as the board had already consulted business bodies and representative to speed up the process.
The committee directed the Provincial Board of Statistics to prepare Terms of References (ToRs) and give deadline for completion of census.
The chairman, Vankwani remarked that statistics had an important role in planning, and policymakers could not make plans and strategies unless having accurate data. He said that after the finalization of ToRs, a meeting would be arranged with business community at Karachi to help pace up the process of survey.
The committee also considered the bill “the General Statistics (Reorganization) (Amendment) Bill, 2017, moved by S.A. Iqbal Quadri, MNA, and decided that the draft along with objections would be sent to all members to give their input.
The committee was also informed that the PBS would follow the guidelines of Council of Common Interests (CCI) in conducting census of 5pc sample population to make data credible and authentic.
Secretary Ministry of Statistics, informed the committee that there was no firm so far having representations in all provinces to conduct the census of 5pc population, adding that modalities were being worked out for conducting the process.
She remarked that the PBS had also started financial as well as technical audit of the census, and assured the committee that the census data was close to perfection.
Meanwhile, the committee also approved minutes of the last meeting.
