Malala arrives at her hometown in Swat amid tight security
After nearly six years, the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai visited her hometown in Pakistan’s Swat Valley on Saturday.
She was flown to Mingora via a helicopter under strict security. Roads leading to Malala's home were blocked off earlier in the day. The government and military have been providing security to Malala on her return to Pakistan.
According to Reuters, 20-year-old Malala would likely be visiting her hometown for one day. Malala was accompanied by State Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and others.
On her return to Pakistan on Thursday, Malala said she was elated at being home. "I miss everything about Pakistan … right from the rivers, the mountains, to even the dirty streets and the garbage around our house, and my friends and how we used to have gossip and talk about our school life, to how we used to fight with our neighbors.”
In an interview to a private news channel, the Oxford student said that she plans to return to Pakistan, adding that she had the same rights on Pakistan as any another Pakistani.
