Malala gives tearful speech on her return home
Returning home after nearly six years, Malala Yousafzai, the youngest person to receive a Nobel Prize, gave an emotional speech while addressing her first conference in Islamabad.
Teary-eyed Malala spoke about how happy she is on finally being home. "I have dreamed of returning to Pakistan for the past five years," she said, while attending the event hosted at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad.
Malala added that when she was roaming around the London streets, she used to tell herself that she was roaming on the streets of Pakistan. "But it was not Pakistan," she said.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also addressed the gathering and expressed his happiness that 'the daughter of the nation' has returned to her homeland. "Pakistan is your [Malala] home and your security is our responsibility," the PM said.
Malala left Pakistan in 2012 after surviving an assassination attempt by Taliban. Taliban gunmen shot Malala in October 2012 as she was returning from school. She suffered bullet injuries and was admitted to Military Hospital Peshawar. She was later shifted to London for further treatment.
She has become an internationally recognized symbol of resistance to the Taliban’s efforts of denying women education and other rights.
