Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Thursday declared the degree of ex-federal minister for education and a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Sheikh Waqas Akram as fake. Sources said that Cambridge University had said it had no record of Waqas with them. An Inter-Board Committee submitted its finding to the HEC in which Waqas's 'A-level' had been termed as fake.
It may be mentioned that Waqas Akram had not submitted his O-level certificate. Waqas is the first high-profile leader whose educational certificate has been declared dubious. Several members of the former national and provincial assemblies are already behind bars on charges of submitting fake degrees.
