ISLAMABAD: Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Tarik Ahsan on Monday said his country had turned its population into asset and achieved a growth rate of 7% per annum during the last two years.

He hoped that brotherly Pakistan would also realize the true potential of its population.

The Bangladesh High Commissioner was speaking at a reception he hosted here to celebrate his country’s 47th national and independence-day.

He said that Bangladesh believed in equality and social justice and was a responsible member of international community.

Bangladesh was regarded as a voice of moderation and was leading the region in women empowerment, he added.

High Commissioner Ahsan said Bangladesh was also playing an important role in the UN peacekeeping across the globe.

The reception was attended among others by Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, former Senator Farhatullah Babar and diplomats of Islamic and Western countries.

Mushahid Hussain Syed and Farhatullah Babar joined the Bangladesh High Commissioner and cut the cake to mark the occasion. National anthems of Pakistan and Bangladesh were also played on this occasion.

A group of Bangladeshi girls donning traditional costumes presented dance to enthrall the participants.
