Wajid Zia submits key documents in Avenfield properties reference
ISLAMABAD: Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head Wajid Zia submitted key documents in the Avenfield properties reference against the Sharif family before the accountability court here Friday.
The documents submitted by him as a prosecution witness before Judge Mohammed Bashir included the land registry of Nielsen and Nescoll Company and the original letter of Qatari Prince Muhammad Bin Jasim al Thani, whose photocopy he had presented a day before. Zia also presented the draft of the agreement held between Al Taufiq Company and Hudaibiya Paper Mills.
Surprisingly, the Qatri prince's original turned out to be different from the photocopy Zia had submitted with the court Thursday.
Wajid Zia, however, tried to clear the position that the copy of letter, which was submitted earlier, was the one which was written by the prince to him (Zia), while today's letter was addressed to the apex court.
Amjad Pervez, counsel for Maryam Nawaz, objected to the admissibility of another letter by the Qatari prince. He also questioned the legality of the evidence being presented, saying that the same were unverified copies of documents.
He said the agreement between Al Taufiq Company and Hudaibiya Paper Mills had become infructuous as the same was presented before the Supreme Court.
The court asked Wajid Zia to submit an application for the admissibility of new evidence.
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam and Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar attended the court proceedings. The case was adjourned till March 20.
