PARTLY FACETIOUS: We must support road blocks

Published Updated

“Welcome to my home, this is a surprise.”

“I urgently needed to tell you that I need you to return the money I lent you, there is a family emergency….”

“Ah you didn’t need to come over - you should have called.”

“I couldn’t connect.”

“That’s a surprise.”

“Well whenever there is a foreign dignitary in town the mobile phones get….”

“No, no that’s not the surprise, the surprise is that you were able to come to my home! I mean whenever they switch off the phones they block all the roads creating a traffic nightmare….…”

“Right those dratted followers of the Man Who Must Remain Nameless, Faceless…”

“Don’t be facetious anyway we must support all traffic decisions particularly road blocks – there is a new girl in town and…”

“Three cricket teams were in town, Sri Lanka, England and ours, all male.”

“Yep they are classified as dignitaries and I would suggest that the Most Honourable Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the head of Traffic in Islamabad, a lady, the first time ever in this country’s history… ….”

“Not necessary – as the Minister of Interior he is her boss.”

“Oh that’s right and that was a very sensible decision – to give him two hats.”

“I fully agree anyway I need the money I lent you rather urgently….”

“Stop right there. We must follow the rules as set by our parliament.”

“Whatever do you mean?”

“We need to first sign an MoU and…”

“What difference would that make? An MoU is non-binding.”

“That will get you in trouble my friend. On a scale of 1 to 200 do you have any idea how many MoUs our government has signed?”

“Close to 200 I would imagine but I want my money back! Don’t shut the door on me, where are….”

“Catch me if you can.”

“I will never ever lend you any money again.”

“Hey first sign an MoU then let’s talk.”

“But….”

“No but just follow process.”
