ISLAMABAD: The denial of educational opportunities to children from poor families— and access to better education for children from privileged class— constitute a serious social inequality that needs to be addressed, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said.
The establishment of Daanish Schools aims to bridge the gap between the children belonging to rich and poor families, he has further said.
“If children belonging to poor segments of the society remain deprived of education due to the lack of resources, and the children from privileged class get education in best educational institutions of the country and abroad—then this is a serious social injustice—that needs to be taken care of,” the PM said, at the inauguration of a Daanish school in Islamabad on Sunday.

The Premier added that his government is taking active steps to address this challenge of social inequality, and that the establishment of Daanish Schools is a key initiative in this regard.
“Millions of people migrated to Pakistan in 1947, leaving everything behind, in the hope of building a nation that would prioritise the principles of justice, merit and fair play,” he said.
“Pakistan cannot attain its real objectives without ensuring the provision of best opportunities for all citizens across every field,” he added.
“Every child from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Gilgit-Baltistan must have access to quality education,” said the PM.
He said Daanish Schools were launched in the year 2010 (when Sharif was Punjab’s Chief Minister) with an aim to provide quality education to children belonging to far-flung areas of the province.
Sharif said that the Punjab Endowment Fund has transformed into the Pakistan Endowment Fund— and that it is a “realisation of Quaid-e-Azam’s vision that children from across the country should get equal opportunities in education and health.”
He expressed the hope that children graduating from Daanish Schools would contribute to the betterment of the country.
