JI inaugurates road in New Karachi

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) inaugurated Shahrah Khalid Hussain Johari in New Karachi on Monday, declaring that the city’s development remains its mission and pledging to keep serving the public.

Karachi chief Monem Zafar, along with New Karachi Town Chairman Muhammad Yusuf, opened the road from 2-Minute Chowrangi to Al-Hameed School on Model Road in UC-2. The road falls under the Town Municipal Corporation (TMC).

Speaking at the ceremony, Monem Zafar praised the New Karachi Town administration, its UC chairman and the entire team for building the road, saying development was JI’s mission. He said JI stood for service and honesty, and despite having limited powers and resources, it had proven through its work that it was the only true party of the people and the answer to their problems.

He noted that New Karachi Town had spent Rs120 million on sewerage works and supplied water to 25,000 houses. He said the PPP’s provincial government had not given a single rupee to the towns run by JI for development, and accused the PPP of occupying the mayorship, towns and UCs in Karachi.

The JI leader said that 22 years had passed since the K-IV project was launched, but it was still incomplete. He said the tanker mafia enjoyed government support, forcing people to buy expensive tankers. He added that the Red Line project had become a nuisance for the people, while the Green Line project was also unfinished.

On the electricity crisis, he said K-Electric was carrying out the worst loadshedding in Karachi, with 18-hour power outages in some areas. Even areas where bills were paid were facing loadshedding, Monem Zafar said JI’s work in its nine towns had made it clear that projects like parks, schools, medical care and roadside urban forests could only be completed by JI. He said that although the Water and Sewerage Corporation was under the “occupant mayor,” his party had resolved sewerage and water supply issues in its different towns using its own budget.

He called the “occupant mayor” so incompetent that he could not even collect garbage from the streets. He said JI would continue to raise its voice for the rights of Karachi’s people and for solutions to their problems, and would carry on its journey of public service and development.

Town Chairman Muhammad Yusuf said the PPP, which had been imposed on the city for 18 years, collected revenue from Karachi but was not ready to resolve its issues. He said New Karachi Town had announced the construction of 600 streets in the first phase and 400 in the second. With the grace of Allah Almighty, 1,000 streets covering 1.2 million square feet had been completed, he added. The town was now working on 1.8 million square feet of roads.
