Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem finished fourth in the men’s javelin throw final at the 2026 Asian Games, missing out on a medal with a best throw of 80.29 metres.

Nadeem recorded 76.69 metres on his first attempt before his second throw was ruled invalid. He improved to 80.29 metres in the third round, which remained his best effort of the competition.

His fourth, fifth and sixth attempts were also invalid, leaving him with only two valid throws out of six.

Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Pathirage won the gold medal with a throw of 88.55 metres, while India’s Yashvir Singh took silver with 85.14 metres. His compatriot Rohit Yadav claimed bronze with 84.35 metres.

Another Pakistani athlete, Muhammad Yasir, also competed in the final and finished ninth among 14 competitors. His best throw was 73.50 metres.

The fourth-place finish comes after Nadeem also missed out on a medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he finished ninth with a best throw of 77.41 metres. His second-round throw was his only valid mark among three attempts.

At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Nadeem won Pakistan’s first individual Olympic gold medal in athletics, ending the country’s 40-year wait for an Olympic gold.

He also set an Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 metres on his second attempt.
