Pakistan and Iran made 'significant progress' in talks on conflict, Naqvi says
- Two sides also exchanged views on regional peace and the way to arrive at a negotiated settlement to the dispute
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran made “significant progress” in talks that focused on the US-Israeli war on Iran and a path to peace, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Tuesday, at the end of a visit to Tehran.
Talks between the two sides focused on measures to prevent further escalation, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an expedited termination of the conflict, a statement from the Pakistani military said about the meeting between the country’s army chief, Asim Munir, and the Iranian leadership.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional peace and the way to arrive at a negotiated settlement to the dispute, the statement said.
“The Iranian President candidly shared his government’s perspective and we had a very constructive exchange on the issues involved,” Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who accompanied Munir to Tehran, said in a post on X.

Munir spoke with US President Donald Trump ahead of his Tehran visit, Reuters reported on Monday.
Trump last week warned of economic consequences against any country that provided “any type of lifeline to Iran” as he seeks to isolate the country.
Iran in turn vowed to shut down all oil exports from the Gulf.
During a day-long official visit to Tehran as part of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to break the stalemate in the US-Iran conflict and restore regional stability, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held comprehensive discussions with top Iranian political and security leadership. He called on President of Iran Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, Representative of the Supreme Leader on the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Minister of Interior of Iran Eskandar Momeni.
The high-level deliberations centered on concrete steps to prevent further regional escalation, reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz, and achieve an expedited termination of the conflict through a negotiated settlement, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday.
The Iranian leadership commended Pakistan’s constructive mediation efforts and sincere commitment to facilitating dialogue, de-escalation, and enduring peace in the region, according to the Inter Services Public Relations.
