Ecnec reviews portfolio of uplift projects

ISLAMABAD: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Saturday reviewed a comprehensive portfolio of major development projects, including the Khawazakhela–Besham Expressway, power-sector efficiency initiatives, hydropower, poverty alleviation, scholarships and key water and infrastructure schemes.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who chaired the meeting, directed the concerned authorities to ensure the timely and efficient implementation of the development schemes.
The meeting considered a comprehensive agenda carrying the details about the current status of development projects, including the construction of the Khawazakhela-Besham Expressway; electricity distribution efficiency improvement projects in LESCO, HESCO and PESCO; the Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project; the Southern Punjab Poverty Alleviation Project; the Fulbright Scholarship Support Programme; and various water, connectivity and infrastructure projects.
The Committee also considered revised PC-Is and reviewed progress/compli-ance relating to ongoing development projects, with a view to ensuring their timely implementation and the efficient utilization of development resources.

The DPM/FM directed all concerned authorities to ensure coordinated and timely action for the effective implementation of development projects and to maintain momentum in the Government’s broader agenda of economic development and improved connectivity.
The meeting was attended by the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Secretaries of the Cabinet Division and Planning Ministry, representatives of the EAD and provincial governments, and senior federal and provincial officials.
