KARACHI: Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) came under heavy selling pressure on Tuesday as persistent domestic political uncertainty and rising international crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index down 2,546.94 points, or 1.41%, to close at 177,955.51 points. The KSE-100 Index touched an intraday high of 180,602.44 points and a low of 177,866.04 points.

Business Recorder’s market indices also recorded declines across all monitored sectors. According to a market review by Topline Securities, heightened intraday volatility and selling pressure prompted investors to reduce their exposure across major sectors.

Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC), Meezan Bank Limited (MEBL), Engro Holdings (ENGROH), United Bank Limited (UBL) and Oil & Gas Development Company (OGDC) were among the major drags on the benchmark, collectively erasing approximately 928 points.

Analyst say the broad-based decline reflected a cautious trading environment, with selling pressure evident across major sectors and futures contracts.

The sharp fall in market capitalisation and the predominance of declining stocks indicated a significant deterioration in market breadth during the session, while elevated trading volumes showed that investor participation remained active despite the bearish trend.
