KARACHI: The Karachi Timber Merchants Group hosted a luncheon in honour of newly-elected Rotary International District 3271 Governor Shahzad Sabir, where representatives of trade bodies and leading businesspersons pledged to strengthen collaboration between the business community and humanitarian organisations like Rotary Clubs for social development.

The reception, held at the Timber Market Secretariat, was attended by Karachi Timber Merchants Group (KTMG) President Suleman Soomro, senior member Saeed Baghtia, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s President Rehan Hanif, former KTMG Vice President Mansoor Kadwani, Sindh Auto Parts Scrap Importers and Dealers Association’s President Muhammad Ali Qureshi, Rotary District 3271 Chairman Media Affairs Syed Turab Ali Shah, and other prominent members of the business community.

Rotary District Governor Shahzad Sabir thanked the organisers for the warm reception and said Rotary International was not merely an organization but a global movement dedicated to humanitarian service, integrity and community welfare.

“Rotary’s mission is to bring positive change to society by serving humanity without discrimination. Through unity, compassion and collective efforts, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need our support the most,“ he said.

He urged the business community to continue partnering with social welfare organisations to promote education, healthcare, environmental sustainability and community development.

In his welcome remarks, KTMG President Suleman Soomro acknowledged Shahzad Sabir’s leadership, vision and dedication to humanitarian service, which would further strengthen Rotary’s mission and expand its welfare initiatives.

“We are confident that under your leadership, Rotary International District 3271 will continue to enhance its contribution to society and inspire more people to participate in community service,” he said.

Soomro expressed hope that the gathering would further strengthen cooperation between Rotary and the business community while promoting the shared values of friendship, volunteerism and public service.

KCCI President Rehan Hanif praised Rotary International’s longstanding contributions in the fields of education, healthcare, environmental conservation and humanitarian assistance.

He said a strong economy and a prosperous society were closely interlinked. Sustainable development could only be achieved through close collaboration between the private sector and welfare organizations.

“When the business community joins hands with social organizations, the result is not only economic progress but lasting social development,” Hanif asserted.

Congratulating Shahzad Sabir on assuming office, he expressed confidence that Rotary’s humanitarian outreach would expand significantly during his tenure.

Former KTMG vice president Mansoor Kadwani said Rotary’s principles of service above self, friendship and humanitarianism represented the values upon which progressive societies are built.

He noted that Karachi’s business community had consistently played a constructive role in charitable and welfare activities, and would continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving the lives of underprivileged people.

Sindh Auto Parts Scrap Importers and Dealers Association’s President Muhammad Ali Qureshi also expressed confidence that Rotary International District 3271 would achieve new milestones under Shahzad Sabir’s leadership.
