Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and United Nations Secretary-General (UNSC) António Guterres discussed on Thursday Pakistan’s mediation efforts for resolving conflicts in West Asia, along with the United Nations’ peacekeeping initiatives.
During the meeting, the UN chief appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for peace and thanked the country for its long-standing contribution to UN peacekeeping operations and its continued commitment to advancing global peace and security.
“Despite the challenges, Pakistan has responsibly played its role through Field Marshal and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in promoting regional peace and stability and protecting human lives,” a statement quoted the interior minister as saying.
Realistic mandates and necessary resources for peacekeeping missions are essential for the success of all peacekeeping missions, Naqvi further said.
“The Secretary-General of the United Nations expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s long-term cooperation in the establishment of the United Nations, to achieve the objective of maintaining global peace and security,” read the statement.
