LAHORE: Iqbal Group of Companies (IGC), one of Pakistan’s integrated poultry conglomerates, has signed a joint-venture agreement with Ovodan Egg Group of Denmark to establish an egg processing facility in Pakistan, the flagship announced jointly this week.

The agreement unites IGC’s domestic poultry platform, which spans production, processing, and distribution through its listed subsidiary Roomi Poultry Limited, with Ovodan’s globally recognised expertise in egg processing technology and value-added product development.

Mohsin Khawaja, Founder and Chief Executive of Iqbal Group, described the signing as “a proud milestone,” framing it as a convergence of Danish precision and Pakistani entrepreneurship directed at a shared objective: modernising Pakistan’s food processing industry and developing export capacity.

“This agreement marks the beginning of what we believe will be a long-term partnership, contributing to Pakistan’s agribusiness sector through innovation, value addition, knowledge transfer, and sustainable growth”, said Mohsin Khawaja.

The joint venture is designed to introduce international quality standards and advanced processing technology into a segment of Pakistan’s food economy that has historically remained at the raw commodity stage. Ovodan, which operates under the broader Thornico Group, chaired by Thor Stadil, brings decade-long institutional depth in processed egg products and export-market development across Europe and Asia.

Henrik Marinus Pedersen, Chief Executive of Ovodan Egg Group, led negotiations on the Danish side, with the group’s Senior Advisor José providing strategic guidance throughout the process.

The facility, once operational, is expected to add a downstream processing layer to Pakistan’s poultry sector, generating value beyond the farm gate and creating potential pathways into regional and international markets. Pakistan is among the world’s larger egg-producing nations but has negligible processed egg exports—a gap the joint venture explicitly targets.

The transaction also extends IGC’s record of attracting foreign strategic capital. The group previously announced a partnership with a Netherlands-based investor in the context of Roomi Poultry.
