ISLAMABAD: The capital city witnessed over 35 incidents of major crimes, including carjacking, murders, mobile phone and cash snatching as well as robberies, in which citizens lost huge amounts of valuables during the last week.

The data collected by Business Recorder revealed that 35 incidents of crime included 24 carjacking cases, seven mobile phone and cash snatching cases, and six cases of various kinds of theft, including robberies.

During the last week, criminal gangs were most active within the jurisdictions of Khanna, Ramana, Aabpara, and Karachi Company police stations. The 23 vehicles stolen during the last week include two cars and 21 motorbikes.

In the same period, auto thieves stole five motorbikes from the limits of the Khanna police station, three motorbikes from the jurisdiction of the Ramna police station, another two cars from the jurisdiction of Noon, two from the limits of the Aabpara police station, one motorbike and a car stole from the jurisdiction of the Karachi Company as well as two motorbikes were stolen from the limits of Industrial area police station.

During the last week, unidentified armed persons snatched one mobile phone, and auto thieves stole five motorbikes from different locations within the limits of the Khanna police station. One person was murdered within the limits of the Kirpa police station.

Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by police during the first five months of 2026, a total of 10,286 suspects were arrested, while stolen property worth over Rs 633 million was recovered.

In action against organised crime, police arrested 588 members belonging to 255 criminal gangs involved in robbery, street crime, and vehicle theft. Police also recovered 93 vehicles and 308 motorcycles from the possession of these gangs, it said.

Police claimed significant progress in blind murder cases, stating that six cases were traced and 11 suspects arrested. During the same period, 2,121 proclaimed offenders were also taken into custody.

In a crackdown on illegal weapons, 945 individuals were arrested. Police recovered a large cache of arms, including 88 Kalashnikov rifles, 19 shotguns, 782 pistols, 85 daggers, and over 4,500 rounds of ammunition.
