Security forces killed 27 militants during a series of intelligence-based operations in the Miran Shah area of North Waziristan over the past 72 hours, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces engaged multiple terrorist hideouts during the operations, triggering intense exchanges of fire.
The military said the slain militants belonged to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which it referred to as “Fitna-al-Khwarij”, and alleged that the group was backed by India.
The ISPR said a cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the terrorists, who were involved in terrorist activities and targeted killings of civilians.
The military said the operation had avenged the killing of prominent local figure Malik Saifullah Dawar, who was recently shot dead in Miranshah, adding that those responsible had been brought to justice.
The ISPR said sanitisation operations were continuing in the area to eliminate any remaining militants, reaffirming that counterterrorism efforts under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam initiative would continue until militancy is eradicated from the country.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif paid a rich tribute to the security forces for executing highly successful counter-terrorism operations in North Waziristan.
According to the PM Office, the prime minister commended the security personnel for eliminating 27 Fitna-al-Khawarij terrorists during intense operations over the last 72 hours. He expressed great satisfaction over the forces bringing the killers of martyred Malik Saifullah Dawar to justice, adding that the entire nation takes immense pride in the bravery of its security forces.
Reiterating the state’s resolve, PM Shehbaz declared that the nefarious designs of Fitna-al-Khawarij and their facilitators would be foiled at all costs. “Operations by security forces and law enforcement agencies will relentlessly continue until the complete eradication of terrorism from the country,” he said.
