Terrorist involved in attack on Lt Col among two killed in Bannu: ISPR

  • Says Kharji ring leader Waheedullah was amongst most wanted terrorist list

At least two terrorists, a ring leader and a suicide bomber, belonging to Indian sponsored Fitna-al-Khwarij were killed in intense exchange of fire during an operation in Bannu, the military’s media wing said on Monday.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that an intelligence based operation was conducted by security forces in Bannu district on reported presence of members of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) alias Khwarij on Sunday.

“Kharji ring leader Waheedullah alias Muktiar was amongst the most wanted terrorist list for his active involvement in numerous terrorist activities including shahdat of security forces personnel and innocent civilians. He was also main handler of a suicide bomber in Bannu district on February 21, resulting into shahadat of Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz.

“The operation has indeed avenged the heinous act and has brought the main perpetrator to justice. Timely action of security forces also averted a major catastrophe,” the ISPR said.

It added that sanitisation operation is being conducted to eliminate any other Indian sponsored Kharji found in the area. Relentless counter terrorism campaign under vision Azm e Istehkam (as approved by Federal Apex Committee on National Action Plan) by security forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan will continue to wipe out the menace of foreign sponsored and supported terrorism from the country, the military’s media wing said.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has paid tribute to the security forces for conducting a successful operation against Fitna al-Khawarij in Bannu.

The prime minister stated that the security forces, through their professional expertise, neutralised two terrorists, including a Khariji ring leader. He reaffirmed that the government of Pakistan remains steadfast in its commitment to completely eliminating the menace of terrorism from the country.

In two separate firing incidents in the district of Bannu, unidentified armed assailants martyred three police personnel on April 6.

According to Bannu police, the first incident had occurred in the Kinger Jan Bahadur area of Mandan, where a police official identified as Sher Muhammad Khan was shot dead. Police had said he was on his way to duty when targeted by unknown attackers.
