The general elections for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will be held on July 27, Chief Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal announced in a press conference on Friday, Aaj News reported.
Following the announcement of the election schedule, a comprehensive code of conduct has come into force across the region.
To ensure a transparent, free, and fair electoral process, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has slapped a strict ban on all new appointments and transfers within government departments. Furthermore, the administration has been barred from making any new announcements regarding development projects.
According to the election schedule released by the chief election commissioner, candidates can submit their nomination papers between June 9 and 19.
Reiterating the commission’s commitment to impartiality, Mughal emphasised that the elections would be conducted in a free and fair manner, ensuring a level playing field with equal opportunities for all participating political parties and candidates.
