The Zilhajj moon has been sighted in Pakistan, with Eidul Adha set to be observed across the country on May 27.

Meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held in Karachi on Sunday to sight the moon of Zilhajj, to determine the dates for Eidul Adha in Pakistan.

The meeting was presided over by the committee chairman, Abdul Khabir Azad, while zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committee sessions were also held in Lahore, Quetta, Islamabad and Peshawar.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia did not sight the Zilhajj moon on Saturday evening, which means that Eidul Adha will be celebrated there on May 27.

Under the lunar calendar, Monday, May 18, will be observed as the first day of Zilhajj, while Wuquf-e-Arafah — the central ritual of Hajj — will take place on Tuesday, May 26.

Eidul Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is observed by Muslims around the world to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.

Based on these astronomical data, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) had on Tuesday said Eidul Adha in Pakistan is expected to fall on May 27.
