Mirra Andreeva tops Sorana Cirstea to reach Linz semis

Top-seeded Mirra Andreeva served five aces while outlasting Romania’s Sorana ​Cirstea 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-2 to ‌reach the semifinals of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz on Friday at ​Linz, Austria.

Andreeva, 18, converted 5 ​of 7 break points against ⁠the fifth-seeded Cirstea, 36, who ​is in her last year on ​tour. After losing the second set, Russia’s Andreeva won the first three ​games of the final set ​en route to the quarterfinal victory.

Andreeva will ‌next ⁠face Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse in Saturday’s semifinals.

Ruse drilled nine aces in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 upset ​of No. ​4 ⁠seed Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia. Ostapenko committed 11 ​double faults.

Austria’s Anastasia Potapova and ​Croatia’s ⁠Donna Vekic will meet in the other semifinal. Potapova was ⁠a ​7-6 (7), 6-0 winner over ​countrymate Lilli Tagger and Vekic ousted Czech ​Karolina Pliskova 7-5, 6-4.
