Sri Lankan shares close lower in worst week this year

Sri Lankan shares closed lower on Friday in the market’s worst weekly performance this year as investors worldwide grappled with uncertainty over the war in the Middle East.

The CSE All-Share index closed 1.34% lower at 21,692.55 points.

CSE down 4.5% for the week, sees worst weekly performance since week ended Dec 5, 2025

Palm Garden Hotels and Hunter & Company were the top percentage losers on the index, down 15.74% and 9.57%, respectively, on the day.

Trading volume on the index rose to 149.6 million shares from 139.7 million shares in the previous session.

The equity market’s turnover rose to 5.27 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($16.94 million) from 4.12 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.

Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 61.4 million rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 5.24 billion rupees, the data showed.
