COLOMBO: Sri Lankan shares closed lower on Monday, weighed down by losses across sectors.

The CSE All Share index settled down 3.5 percent at 21,904.14. Namunukula Plantations and Nuwara Eliya Hotels were the top percentage losers on the index, falling 91.3 percent and 13.5 percent, respectively.

Trading volume on the CSE All Share index rose to 197.7 million shares from 196.4 million in the previous session.

The equity market’s turnover rose to 5.81 billion Sri Lankan rupees (USD18.66 million) from 5 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.

Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 97.9 million rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 5.72 billion rupees, the data showed.
