HANOI: Vietnamese budget airline Vietjet has signed a $965 million financing deal with Griffin Global Asset Management for the purchase of 6 Boeing 737-8 aircraft, it said on Thursday.

Vietjet said in a statement the agreement marked a significant step in its strategy to diversify its international funding sources.

The deal was signed during a visit to the US by the head of Vietnam’s Communist Party, To Lam, to attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, the initiative launched by US President Donald Trump to address global conflicts.

Vietjet on Thursday also announced that the value of an agreement it signed with Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of RTX, earlier this month was $5.4 billion.

The agreement, originally announced at the Singapore Airshow, is for the supply and maintenance of 44 engines for A321neo and A321XLR aircraft.
