Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar has departed for New York via London to participate in a high-level briefing of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in Palestine, the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

“After accompanying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his two-day visit to Vienna for key engagements, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar has departed for New York via London,” the Foreign Office said in its latest statement on X.

The meeting will be chaired by the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary in her capacity as President of the Security Council.

Earlier, the Foreign Office said Dar will reaffirm Pakistan’s principled and consistent stance on the Palestinian issue.

He is expected to reiterate Islamabad’s strong opposition to Israel’s recent decisions to expand its control over the West Bank and stress the need for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

The deputy prime minister will also call for the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 2803, increased humanitarian assistance for affected civilians, and the early launch of Gaza’s recovery and reconstruction process.

He will underline Pakistan’s continued diplomatic engagement with international and regional partners, including the Group of Eight Arab and Islamic countries and the United States, in support of a just and lasting peace based on international law.

Pakistan supports the realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign and contiguous Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

On the sidelines of the visit, Dar will hold bilateral meetings with counterparts to discuss matters of mutual interest, the statement added.
