LAHORE: The Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) and representatives of the edible oil and ghee industry on Friday announced a Ramazan relief package after negotiations with the government of Punjab, pledging to supply subsidised flour, oil and ghee with quality compliance during the holy month.
Under the arrangement, 10kg flour bags will be sold at Rs 850 at 64 Sahulat Bazaars and Ramazan Sahulat Bazaars established across Punjab. In addition, flour mills will set up 1,550 special sale points where 10kg bags will be available at Rs905 and 20kg bags at Rs1,810. According to officials, a reduction of Rs10 to Rs16 per kg/litre pack will be offered on all ghee and cooking oil products during Ramazan.
In a joint statement, PFMA Group Leader Asim Raza Ahmed and Punjab Chairman Riazullah Khan said the association had decided to stand shoulder to shoulder with the provincial government to provide maximum relief to consumers in Ramazan.
They said routine supply of flour would continue uninterrupted at shops across the province to ensure market stability and prevent shortages during peak demand. The association reiterated that it would extend full cooperation to the Punjab government to facilitate consumers in what it described as a month of relief and compassion.
Separately, in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister, a high-level meeting was held between Special Assistant Salma Butt, Director General PFA Asim Javed and representatives of the ghee mills industry to finalise a Ramazan relief plan for edible oil and ghee.
Salma Butt said quality edible oil and ghee would be made available at discounted rates across markets in Punjab in line with the chief minister’s directives. She added that if international palm oil prices decline further, the industry would extend additional price relief in consultation with the authorities.
The Punjab Food Authority also sought recommendations to further improve quality standards. DG Asim Javed said modern and cost-effective methods are available to reduce trans-fatty acids, adding that testing procedures and quality benchmarks are being upgraded to align with international standards.
He warned of strict action against the supply of substandard ghee, while industry representatives appreciated the authority’s enforcement measures, including the implementation of international SOPs in ghee and oil mills across Punjab.
Chairman of the Ghee Mills Association Asjad Arif said the industry would ensure ample supply of quality products during Ramazan and extend full cooperation to eliminate adulteration and counterfeit practices from the market.
Officials maintained that coordinated efforts between industry stakeholders and regulators would help stabilise prices and ensure smooth availability of essential food commodities during the holy month.
