Pakistan rejects the irresponsible assertions made by Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, said Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi on Saturday, in response to Jaishankar’s latest remarks about Pakistan.

“Once again, India seeks to deflect attention from its own troubling record as a neighbour that promotes terrorism and contributes to regional instability.

“India’s documented involvement in promoting terrorist activities in the region, particularly in Pakistan, is well known. The case of Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav remains a stark example of organised, state-sponsored terrorism directed against Pakistan. Equally concerning are recurring instances of extraterritorial killings, sabotage through proxies, and covert support to terrorist networks. This pattern is consistent with the extremist ideology of Hindutva and its violent proponents,” the MoFA spokesperson said.

He said India continues its illegal and violent military occupation of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan remains steadfast in its commitment to extend full political, moral, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people in their just struggle to realise their right to self-determination, as enshrined in relevant UN Security Council resolutions, he added.

The development comes a day after Jaishankar, speaking at the inauguration of Shaastra 2026- IIT Madras Techno-Entertainment fest, once again levelled baseless allegation of cross-border terrorism against Pakistan, while denying cooperation on water sharing in violation of basic human rights.

Meanwhile, Andrabi said the The Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) is an international agreement concluded in good faith and at considerable cost.

“Any unilateral violation of the treaty by India would undermine regional stability and call into question its credibility as a state that claims to respect international legal obligations. Pakistan will take all necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights under the treaty.”

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman on December 29 said that India’s weaponisation of water will further inflame tensions in a bilateral relationship already bristling with hostility and distrust with Pakistan.

The politico had said this after the Indian government approved the 260 MW Dulhasti Stage-II hydropower project on the Chenab River, located in the Kishtwar district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Quoting officials as saying, The Hindu had reported that a panel of the Ministry of Environment has approved the Dulhasti Stage-II hydropower project.
