GCWL begins production of import-substitute Calcium Carbide
KARACHI: Ghani Chem World Limited (GCWL) has formally commenced the production and sale of import-substitute Calcium Carbide and its related products following the successful commissioning of its new manufacturing project at the Hattar Special Economic Zone, the company informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday.
In a notification issued under the Securities Act, 2015 and PSX regulations, the company said the project was completed under the supervision of Chinese and European experts and has now entered the commercial production phase. GCWL described the development as a major milestone toward strengthening Pakistan’s indigenous industrial base.
According to the company, the facility has been built in line with modern technological standards and is designed to cater to both domestic and export market requirements for Calcium Carbide and its allied products. Calcium Carbide is a key industrial input used in various manufacturing processes, including chemicals, metals, and allied industries.
The company noted that the launch of local production would help reduce reliance on imports while supporting value addition within the country. It added that the project aligns with broader national objectives of promoting industrial self-sufficiency and boosting exports through the development of high-value chemical products.
