PTI will not support PPP for Senate: Imran Khan

10 Mar, 2018

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has put all the speculations to rest by saying that he will not vote for any Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate for the Senate chairman and deputy chairman.

Addressing the media on Friday, Khan said that his party will support the candidates from Baluchistan and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) for the Senate chairman and for deputy chairman. Khan said that joining hands with PPP would be contradicting PTI's stance against corruption.

After the Senate elections on March 3, Khan had said that his party would do everything to stop  Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from securing their candidate for the Senate chairman. Speculations had been around that PTI might join hands with PPP who have 20 seats in the Parliament.

However, Imran has said that FATA and Baluchistan have been facing a sense of deprivation. Advising both the provinces he said the senators from Balochistan and FATA should resist any pressure exerted by the PPP.

On Thursday, in a joint presser with Baluchistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bazinjo, Imran had announced that his party’s 13 senators will vote for the candidate nominated by the Baluchistan CM.
