LAHORE: An enforcement team of Punjab Food Authority launched strict action against violations of food regulations during an early morning crackdown in Gajjumatta and inspected 28 food points and suppliers, imposing fines of over Rs 900,000 on 15 outlets. Three dairy shops were sealed while more than 1,000 litres of milk, spices and other prohibited items were discarded on the spot. Teams inspected over 50 milk-carrying vehicles, checking nearly 42,000 litres of milk.

Director General PFA said that two units were sealed and two FIRs were registered for involvement in fraudulent activities. He said that poor cleanliness arrangements, foul smell, incomplete medical fitness certificates of employees and missing training records were observed during inspections.

DG PFA said that despite repeated improvement notices, the operators failed to comply with food safety standards. Processing areas were found in poor condition while storage sections were infested with insects. He stated that the discarded items were intended to be supplied to Lahore and its surrounding areas.

The DG PFA warned that the use of fake milk and substandard spices can lead to serious illnesses. DG PFA further said that, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, strict action will continue against those involved in adulteration and fraudulent practices. He has requested citizens to check manufacturing and expiry dates before purchasing any food items.
