Pakistan, Iran vow deeper ties as DPM Dar meets Iranian security chief
- Larijani to "hold talks" with Pakistani political, military-security leadership
Pakistan and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties across diverse sectors during a meeting between Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Dr Ali Larijani on Tuesday.
Dar received Larijani at his office during the latter’s official visit to Pakistan, the Foreign Office said.
Both sides also agreed to enhance cooperation on regional and international issues of mutual interest, the FO added.
Meanwhile, Embassy of Iran in Islamabad said Larijani arrived here on a two-day visit to hold talks with Pakistani political and military-security leaders.
Prior to departing for Pakistan, Larijani in a statement said Pakistan was Iran’s friend and brotherly country in the region.
“The Iranian people will never forget that in the 12-day war imposed on Iran by America and the Zionist regime, the Pakistani nation stood alongside the Iranian nation,” he said.
He said Iran and Pakistan were two important and effective countries for sustainable security in the region, and they always focus on fraternal relations with the countries of the region.
Global peace: Pakistan, Iran committed to working together: PM
In a post on X a day ago, Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam said the Iranian security chief was paying an unprecedented visit to Pakistan.
“This historic milestone marks a pivotal moment at which the already solidified and time-tested relations between our two brotherly nations are set to enter another strategic phase,” he said.
In light of the rapidly evolving global landscape and the emerging dynamics within our regional ecosystem, the need to further strategise and elevate the bilateral relations had become more imperative than ever — an objective that would be meaningfully advanced through this significant visit, he said.
Dar meets Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister
In a separate development, DPM Ishaq Dar also received Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepen economic cooperation.
Jabbarov, who is leading a high-level business delegation to Pakistan, discussed avenues for strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties. The talks followed up on the understanding reached between the leadership of both countries during their meeting in Baku on November 8, 2025.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers held a “productive exchange of views” focused on expanding economic collaboration across multiple sectors.
The visit also aims to facilitate direct engagement between Azerbaijani businesses and Pakistani counterparts to explore new opportunities.
The meeting underscores the growing momentum in Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations, particularly in energy, transport, agriculture, and technology cooperation, as both sides seek to translate political goodwill into tangible economic outcomes.
