ISLAMABAD: Former President Asif Ali Zardari Wednesday categorically rejected nominating the incumbent chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani as Pakistan Peoples Party’s candidate for second term.

Commenting on Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz chief Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s announcements of supporting PPP’s Mian Raza Rabbani for Senate’s top slot, Zardari said he did not want to nominate Mian Raza Rabbani for contesting Chairman Senate slot.

He said he came to meet Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman to win his support for PPP’s Senate chairman candidate. He hoped that the JUI-F would vote PPP nominee of Chairman Senate.

Talking on the occasion, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman said he would decide about supporting the candidate of chairman Senate after consultations with party colleagues.

Maulana thanked Asif Ali Zardari for visiting his home.
