SC issues notice to respondents in case regarding ban on betel nuts, gutka
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to respondents on a tobacco company's plea while hearing a case regarding ban on betel nuts (chalia) and gutka.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan heard the case.
The chief justice remarked that that both smoking and gutka were hazardous to human health.
During the course of proceedings, the counsel for private tobacco and spices company said that he was not advocating for the gutka sellers however, their products were registered products.
On the request of tobacco company the court issued notices to the respondents and adjourned hearing of the case till date in office.
