COAS visits flood affected areas in interior Sindh

  • Says Pakistan Army will continue to serve people to mitigate their suffering till they are rehabilitated

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited flood-affected areas in interior Sindh and met with troops busy in flood relief efforts providing medical and administrative care to affected people in Noshero Feroz, the military’s media affairs wing said on Thursday.

“COAS also interacted with the locals and assured them that Pakistan Army will continue to serve people to mitigate their suffering till they are rehabilitated,” the Inter-Services Public Relations said.

Later, the Army Chief was flown for aerial reconnaissance of flood-hit areas of Sindh.

Earlier on arrival, COAS was received by Lieutenant General Muhammad Saeed, Corps Commander Karachi.

Last month, Gen Qamar Bajwa visited Dadu and Badin districts and spent time with flood-affected people in relief and medical camps.

Army chief visits flood-hit Dadu

COAS directed the formation for providing 5,000 tents for flood-affected people of Dadu and surrounding areas. He also interacted with troops busy in rescue and relief activities.

Later, talking to the media, General Qamar Javed Bajwa said Dadu is the most affected area. He said Manchar Lake and Hamal Lake, which have around a hundred-kilometre distance between them, have been merged.

The Army Chief said rescue work in other parts of the country has ended except Dadu. He expressed hope that people from Sindh will also come forward their brothers and sisters.

He said the international community is also helping Pakistan generously.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa said Pakistan needs to be prepared for heavy rains cycles. He said the army engineering corps has been assigned the task to prepare a plan to cope with such a situation in the future. He stressed the need to develop a drainage system.

To a question, he said our carbon emission in the world is less than one per cent, urging that the world should have a collective approach to address the issue of global warming.
