Kasur land scam: LHC dismisses plea for bail cancellation of accused
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday dismissed a petition for cancellation of bail granted to 13 accused in Kasur mega land scam.
The single bench comprising Justice Abdul Sami Khan heard the petition filed by the Punjab prosecution department.
During the hearing, an additional prosecutor general submitted that former additional deputy commission Amir Aqiq transferred 1250-kanal state land in Kasur to his relatives in connivance with a former brigadier (Ibrahim Khalid), a tehsildar and patwaris on low rates in 2013.
However, the trial court granted bail to the accused without any valid reason, he added. He pleaded with the court to cancel the bail granted to 13 accused in the case.
However, the defence counsel Safdar Shaheen Pirzada submitted that the trial court granted bail to the accused on merit and after fulfilling legal requirements.
He further submitted that the prosecution had submitted challan (Charge-sheet) against the accused in the trial court and they would be indicted soon.
He said that if the bail was cancelled at this stage then it would prejudice the trial.
The court after hearing the arguments dismissed the petition but directed trial court for concluding the trial in six months.
