Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has officially announced Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif as their interim party president and have elected deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as the party's Quaid for life.

According to local media reports, Shehbaz's name was nominated by elder brother Nawaz. The decision was made at the Central Working Committee meeting held today (Tuesday). Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Nawaz's daughter Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz were also present during the meeting.

After the disqualification of Nawaz as the PML-N head, there were speculations of a rift between the party as to who would be appointed as the party head. Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of Nawaz, and daughter Maryam, along with Shehbaz, were the top candidates to be possibly handed the baton to.
